This air conditioner is a honey. Easy to install, blows cold air almost instantly, and cooled my living room and hallway-over 300 sq. feet on a 90 degree humid day. Dried the air out in half an hour, took it from 81 to 76 in three-quarters of an hour. Should have bought this before.

I bought the Midea 10,000 BTU Room Air Conditioner, $299.00, for my small one bedroom apartment. I thought it would be an easy installation compared to a window unit. Prior to this I've always used window air conditioners in my home and they worked great. With my previous window units I've always secured the bottom sash with an L-bracket and screw, but I now rent an apartment and I'm not allowed to make holes in the vinyl windows. So I unpacked the Midea set it up and it looked good, had a nice remote, came with a nice vent tube and window vent, and powerful fans the only problem is that it doesn't blow cold air??? The thermostat says it can blow cool air as low as 62 degrees but that never happened. I ran it all day and nite and the room never got cool. Like I said it has powerful, loud fans but they only blew out air that cannot be classified as cool. You could stand in front of the unit and put your face up to the fans, on high, and still you wouldn't feel cold air. If I did that with my old 8000 BTU window unit I would freeze my face off. Thus I took it back for a refund and bought a 10,000 BTU window unit and it works great! It cooled my apartment down to ice cold in an hour and the fan noise is half as loud as the Midea. To install the window unit instead of drilling holes for L-brackets to lock the bottom sash down I simply cut two pieces of 1"x2" wood blocks and wedged them in between the sash and the top of the window, its in firm and holds the air conditioner in securely.The idea of a room air conditioner and its portability sounds good but just doesn't work. Also after 36 hours of trying the Midea the only thing it did was dehumidify the air because I found it accumulated about 4 cups of water. That's another negative about room air conditioners because you have to remember to constantly empty the water from the unit unlike window units which simply drip water outside.
