LG has a history of making highly efficient but sleek looking products, including TV's, Cell Phones and more. The model we review here today is #LS090HYV and does not the option for heating, so this is cooling only.The house in which we installed the unit is a 2,500 sq/ft single family, two-level home with 3 bedrooms. Due to the intense heat this Summer, there is an auxiliary room over the garage that has trouble maintaining cool temperatures due to its proximity to the heat pump. Instead of re-working the duct work, a ductless mini-spit system proved to be the better option.Ductless mini-split systems are a great way to supplement heating and cooling systems in the home. Whether you retrofit the unit by pairing it with an existing central air system, or install it in an addition, mini splits have becoming the ideal solution for rooms that need an additional boost in heating or cooling. According to Energy Star, there are many benefits to purchasing a Ductless system, including money & energy savings, as well as control over comfort (on-demand).Art Cool(tm) Premier ReviewInstallation: The installation of the unit was a fairly simple process. We used a local, trusted HVAC contractor and this was actually the first one of this model they installed. In what was predicted to take two days to complete, the one-man team had it completed within 12 hours. We put the inside unit next to a NW facing window, and it fits perfectly in the room. Since this room is above the garage, we were able to put the outside unit right in between some shrubbery. The contractor did a nice job of setting the outdoor parts so that they do not look out of place. The refrigerant lines were then run up the side of the home, and get covered with siding so that it blends well.Operation: The Art Cool(tm) unit comes with a pretty slick remote control, and is incredibly easy to use. With the push of a button, you can hear the unit come on and the 4-way swing puts out a soothing tone. My mother was actually in town the week after the system was installed, and commented how crazy it was that an AC system displaying so much power could be so quiet. I really like how simple it is to use. I think this is one of the best features of the unit - simply turn it on, let it cool the room and you are done. The Premier unit also has a built-in sleep mode feature that ensures the unit does not run all day in case you forget to turn it off.Cooling Power: Without a doubt, the LG mini-split cools a 400 sg/ft. room with ease. Even on a 90 degree day, the entire room was cooled within minutes. I don't see any negatives to the cooling power at this point, and imagine that the increased efficiency of the unit will not put a huge dent in our electric bill.Looks: The unit looks sleek, there is no doubt about it. I've seen many ductless systems before and the outside units are really where the aesthetics suffer. LG has done a great job with the Art Cool(tm) line, although I would prefer if the refrigerant lines would have been run inside the home.Conclusion: We really like the LG product line, and would recommend that Art Cool Premier to anyone looking for a ductless mini-split system for their home or office. It is hard to overlook the incredible design aspects that feed into one of the industries top-performing air conditioning units. Between the great looks, ease of installation and reporting energy-savings, I have not seen another ductless mini-split unit that matches the LG Art Cool(tm) Premier.
